Pomfret School Archives

The main classroom in the School House was able to accommodate up to 100 boys, ca. 1920.
Containing photographs, records, ephemera, publications and other artifacts and documents, the Pomfret School Archives preserves the school’s history by collecting and housing important materials. Located in the lower level of du Pont Library, the archives welcomes researchers’ questions by phone, email or letter. For more information, please contact Heather Andren.

Henry B. du Pont '16 Library

Pomfret School du Pont Library
On May 28, 1969, Pomfret School’s library was moved from a single room in the main school building to the newly created Henry B. du Pont ’16 Library. The foresight in design of the building has withstood the years extremely well and has allowed for adaptation to the new technology of the 21st century. In an attractive, comfortable, and contemporary setting, the library sits at the center of campus and is the primary resource of materials for academic investigation. The principal mission of the library is to foster both the development of skills and a comfort level with library use that can be applied in any library throughout a lifetime of learning.
The printed collection consists of over twenty thousand volumes. In addition, we have numerous e-books, magazine subscriptions, and a sizable film collection (on video and DVDs). Loan of materials via Interlibrary Loan throughout the country truly makes this a “virtual” facility.
In addition to campus-wide access to the school’s card catalog, the du Pont Library provides links to several on-line databases. These databases include: encyclopedias (Britannica, Grolier, and World Book); Access Science; African-American Experience; Columbia Granger’s World of Poetry; Credo Reference; Facts On File (history, literature, social issues); EBSCOhost; H. W. Wilson Art; JSTOR (journal collection); NY Times Historical; Pop Culture; Questia (full-text books, magazines and newspapers); Salem History; and iConn, the state-wide Connecticut collection of resources. The majority of material in these databases is full-text with download/print capability.
The du Pont Library continually culls and updates its collection to maintain current resource materials and is dedicated leveraging current technology to meet 21st century research and learning demands.
